Common Posture Problems Start Here Causing Pain

Evaluate your own posture at home

We focus on posture at our clinic. I can typically find a posture dysfunction that is causing or contributing to almost everyone's pain or symptoms that relate to their back, headaches, TMJ, and joint/muscle pain.  I made a video to help explain what I look for in an evaluation and you can even follow along and test yourself.

There are three main areas that we initially look at with all our patients; pelvis, upper body, and lower body.   Most people have either abnormal muscle tightness and weakness causing an anterior or posterior tilt in the pelvis.  This often leads to pinching of the nerves or abnormal disc pressure.  When this happens people experience disc herniation, low back pain, sciatica, hip and leg pain and many other conditions.   We also look at the upper back to determine if you have over-tight or weak muscles causing something called hyper kyphosis. This leads to the head going in front of the body and the shoulders rounding forward.  This condition often leads to headaches, neck/shoulder pain, TMJ, balance/vertigo, and many pain and symptoms down the arms.

The third area is the lower body especially the ankle and hips.  You can easily test if your ankles are weak and unstable along with the glut medius that helps stabilized you when you walk or stand on one leg.  If you have weakness or instability, this leads to knee pain, hip pain, plantar fascitis, heel pain, low back pain and many times dysfunctions all the way up the body.

We have created many follow along videos on our YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHALA3fEGP3PAYUp41oPFDA

to address any dysfunctions you find.  I am continuing to add more and more videos to the channel.  The goal of the channel is for you to work on one or two areas at a time for a couple of weeks and then retest.  The videos are placed under playlists, so if you find that you have weak hip flexors you can go to the playlist called "hip flexor weakness"  and try one or two videos a day. After watching the video you probably won't have to watch it again because you will know how to do the drills from watching it once.

I have a playlist called "posture testing"  where you can follow along and test yourself to see what you need to work on.  Otherwise you can have me test it in the clinic and give you homework to do at home.

Please pass this information on to whomever you think might benefit from it. I hope all this helps you and maybe your friends/family.  Please always let me know how I can help.

Have a great day
