How a Sedentary Lifestyle is Causing Chronic Disease and Early Mortality

Sitting Disease is a modern-day health epidemic associated with prolonged sitting with poor posture.  If this sounds like something you do, then you could be suffering. 

You sit at a desk all day at work, then you go home from a long workday,  check your social media and watch TV. Or worse yet, now you sit at home all day working on a couch/kitchen table compared to your ergo friendly desk at work  After watching a couple of shows you go to bed and repeat the same sedentary behaviors tomorrow.  You end up sitting eight-tweleve hours per day and sleeping another eight.  This results in 16-20 hours of inactivity. 

Before you know it you have gained weight, you feel exhausted after a day at work, your back hurts, and you can see your health diminishing right before your eyes.  You want to make changes, you wish you could be more active, but your job requires you to work at a desk.  So, you keep sitting yourself sick. 

Did you know that prolonged sitting with poor posture predisposes you to depression, neck and back pain, obesity, chronic disease, and even early mortality?  Men and women who sit more than 6 hours per day are more likely to die early than active individuals.   

If your job requires you to be seated, do not worry, there is a solution to overcome Sitting Disease that does not require you to quit your job. 

Over the Covid break I have gotten certified as an ergonomist (the applied science of equipment design and workstation exercises as to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort to reduce work injuries.  My goal is to help more people stay healthy and more active while they work.  I have produced workstation ergonomic evaluation that we can either do in office or virtually.  If we do it virtually, you would only have to take some pictures of your current workstations and some video of certain functional tests for me to analyze.  I will then come up with a Complete Postural Ergonomic Assessment of your workstation.

The Postural Ergonomic Solution

Postural Ergonomics is the solution to synergistically transform your workplace and your health.  The purpose of Postural Ergonomics is to improve your function, posture, and cognition within your workplace so you can be more active and productive while taking care of your body. 

Postural Ergonomics will take care of you in your workplace with your unique needs.  You can schedule a consultation with me for free, or we can come to you and perform an On-Site Ergonomic Evaluation in your workplace.  If you prefer to have a Virtual Workspace Assessment performed, this can also be arranged.

Posture is declining at the speed of technology and modern-day workers are getting fat faster and sicker quicker.  If you do not take an active stand for your health, then no one else will.  We have designed solutions to help you overcome Sitting Disease.   

Find the solution that is best for you. Based on your Complete Postural Ergonomic Assessment of your workstation, I will recommend exercises, stretches, non-exercise activities thermogenesis (NEAT), and things you do to improve the ergonomics of your works station.   We can then follow-up in ten weeks to see the improvements.  Before everyone started working from home 80% of Americans say they had back pain on a regular basis; now, the numbers are going to be higher unfortunately. The last lunch and learn I did at a corporation, 50% of attendees said they suffer from neck pain and headaches.  I gave them all exercises to do to reduce their pain.
